Lino Marques has Licenciatura, MSc, and PhD in Electrical Engineering and is an Assistant Professor at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of University of Coimbra where he teaches Mechatronics, Smart Sensors, and Industrial Automation. Dr. Lino Marques is also a senior researcher at ISR-UC where he leads the Embedded Systems Laboratory, having been involved in several national and European research projects and having published more than 120 papers in international conferences and journals. He was invited editor of Autonomous Robots Journal for a special issue in “Mobile Robot Olfaction” and is co-editing a special issue on “Robotics for environmental monitoring” in IEEE RAM. He acted as General co-chair of the 11th Int. Conf. on Climbing and Walking Robots (CLAWAR2008). He was the local coordinator of FP6/IST GUARDIANS (Group of unmanned assistant robots deployed in aggregative navigation supported by scent detection); AdI ControlRev and was deeply involved in FCT RoboNose (Olfaction Based Mobile Robot Navigation); DEMINE (Mobile Robot Based Detection and Localization of Anti-personnel Landmines); AquaFinder (Searching chemical hot-spots in underwater environments); RISCOS and NeuroCity projects. His main research interests are in the areas of Field and Service Robotics, Mechatronics and Sensors for Mobile Robotics, with particular emphasis in mobile robot olfaction.
